I met Eileen in college and casually stayed in contact since. I saw that she announced starting a custom wedding dress brand and thought back to her unreal, insanely imaginative creations in fashion design school. A few months later in August 2020, I met my soulmate and we decided to get married one year from the day we met (quick, I know).
I immediately texted Eileen to see what she could do for us. My first and only panic about planning a wedding was the dress. In this case, two dresses because I was marrying a woman. There's no way I could wear off the rack, yuck, and no way I could afford the Vera Wang I had my eye on.
Eileen, my fiance, and I face timed. I showed her photo references and gave her our list of must-haves. She sketched up the Perfect set of outfits for our two very different personalities. We excitedly approved her designs and she started constructing our mockups.
We had planned on visiting her in New York (we're in LA) in early 2021 to fit our dresses and give her plenty of time to sew our final looks, however, covid flared up and we couldn't get out there until the first weekend of June! She assured us she could finish our elaborate dresses in time and not to worry.
The fitting was wildly successful! My corset and skirt fit like a freakin glove! I couldn't believe it. Seeing myself in the mirror, I got to have that overwhelming moment you see in the movies, where the world goes quiet and it's just the bride and her childhood dream staring back at her.
My wife is a gorgeous and surprisingly tall woman so her pants weren't quite long enough on the first try. But Eileen literally whipped up another quick pair of pants while we ate lunch and the second try was all it took.
We left her studio floating. Eileen hustled for the next 2 months to complete our outfits. She texted us with finishing detail questions like sizes of zippers, the color of linings, the style of ribbons for the lace-up, the location of pocket placements, etc. It was a complete and honest collaboration. She shipped us our dream wedding dresses with time to spare. I couldn't imagine wearing anyone else's design on my big day!!
